You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a Microsoft Agent or Microsoft Employee and that broacom phone number is an official Microsoft global customer service number. Thank you for the information. I have to use device manager to remove it then scan for hardware changes which reinstalls it and everything it then fine.
Any ideas or suggestion welcome. I will post any updates on this issue on thread: Device manager says the Ethernet controller is working, but I can’t get it to look for an updated driver for obvious reasons.

I did a quick check and it appeared that I had the latest very old device. Meanwhile following the steps mentioned in this thread will work around the issue if you can call disabling Ethernet a valid workaround until we have a real fix available. Ill keep trying different things but i may have to try windows re-install too.
Update a driver 404x hardware that isn’t working properly. After Windows 7 x64 installed its own driver. The update also broke my wifi connection, and it took me awhile to figure out I had to disable the broadcom, disable the wifi Intel Wireless WiFi link AGNthen remove the wifi adaptor, then reboot sigh.
